This week, Abkhazia’s leadership made another decision to combat underground cryptocurrency mining.
The president of the republic Aslan Bzhania demanded from the government, law enforcers and power engineers to suppress any attempts to damage the energy system of Abkhazia. According to him the Parliament will soon be considering the draft law on increasing fines for those who steal electricity to supply the mining equipment.
The president stressed during a meeting with officials and members of the legislature that electricity consumption increased by more than 20 percent in 2020 compared to 2019.
After this decision of the republic’s leadership, an operational headquarters was created in Sukhumi, which will monitor the situation in the region around the clock and fight the miners.
The press center of the city’s mayor’s office noted in a statement:
The operative headquarters will hold daily meetings to plan a strategy to combat illegal mining of cryptocurrency and send a daily report to the presidential administration and the government on the work done.
Beslan Eshba, who heads the Sukhumi administration, became the chairman of the operational headquarters.
